John McCain’s political heirs are continuing to carry on his fight against President Donald Trump’s isolationist policies, and have been vocal in their criticism of the president’s decision to pull US troops out of Syria and Afghanistan, and his attempts to limit international trade and alliances. Sens. Lindsey Graham and Marco Rubio, both close friends and allies of the late Senator McCain, have publicly denounced the president’s decisions, asserting that these could do long-term damage to US interests. Other Republican lawmakers, such as Sens. Mitt Romney and Chuck Grassley, have also joined in blasting the president’s foreign policy decisions. In addition, congressional advocates of McCain’s vision have pushed for an end to the government shutdown, as well as measures to reduce US debt, support global trade, and STABALIZE US alliances. While Trump has made no secret of his disdain for McCain and his legacy, McCain’s supporters continue to push for the US to remain engaged in the world and to be a beacon of human rights and democracy.
