Vice President Joe Biden is engaged in a “cover-up” of his son Hunter’s business dealings, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s top Republican said Wednesday as the House impeachment probe continued.
“From what we know, it does appear that he was not exactly forthcoming and instead seemed to be trying to cover up his involvement in his son’s business dealings in Ukraine,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said, referring to Biden.
McCarthy, who has been an outspoken critic of Biden’s possible involvement in the Ukraine scandal, said that Congress has a responsibility to look further into the matter and that this is a “critical issue.”
He called for both Hunter and Joe Biden to appear before Congress to share what they know about the Ukraine controversy. He also expressed concerns about the amount of access the Bidens were granted while the former vice president was in power — allegations that are being investigated by the impeachment inquiry.
The impeachment inquiry, which began in September and is looking into whether the President used military aid for the Ukraine to pressure the country into investigating the Bidens’ business ties, is continuing. McCarthy’s comments come as the impeachment inquiry moves into a critical phase, with a flurry of recent testimony from key current and former Trump administration officials.
